Portugal's Eastern Algarve takes in
the towns of Faro, Almancil, Loulé, Sao Bras, Olhão
and Tavira, which is close to the Spanish border. Between these
small towns are the villages and communities that time seems to
have passed by. Sta Barbara de Nexe, Estoi, Bordeira, Gorjoes, Alte
and the small market town of Moncarapacho.
Village squares in local communities, fountains, fresh water wells
and bougainvillea-encrusted houses make the eastern Algarve a must
for those who want to see the real Portugal. Local restaurants serving
local food, coffee shops and sidewalk cafes are a peaceful reminder
of times past, when life was perhaps a little less hurried.
However always remember, nowhere in the Algarve is too far away
from the splendid wonderful beaches that glisten with golden sands
such as the Vale de Lobo beach complex, Quinta do Lago or the renowned
Julia’s beach with it’s fine restaurant. |
